Gum Disease Information - A Need!

When the bacteria in the sticky film or plaque that forms on teeth inflames the gums, a dental condition called gum disease is on track. Gum inflammation is two-sided. While it is usually considered as a positive response to bacteria - a sign that the body is fighting back, however, it can cause more harm than good if the inflammation rages unchecked. Apart from bleeding, gum disease has few symptoms and rarely causes much discomfort.Well before the gums or teeth start to hurt, the causative bacteria and their toxins are pumped into the bloodstream during routine tooth brushing and chewing of food and hitch a ride to other parts of the body where they wreak havoc. One of the many gum disease facts and theories is that it inflicts damage elsewhere in the body involves inflammation. Toxins released by bacteria in plaque cause the immune system to produce chemicals called cytokines. Cytokines can increase inflammation and damage tissues throughout the body. Inflammation in general is now considered a prime culprit in the development of many illnesses, including heart disease and some types of cancer.
