Jesus is the too good to be true rebel: He stood against this world’s selfishness, went against society’s expectations. He did the unheard of so that we could be free: free from hate, free from unforgiveness, free from lies, free from death. Jesus died without defending himself, died forgiving his enemies (us). Jesus was unjustly framed up and branded a criminal and executed. They killed him because he declared that the poor, the outcasts, the slaves, the throwaway people, the wretched of the earth, are the most beloved of God. Jesus came not merely to reveal to us the love of a heavenly Father but He also came to make indemnification for the sins of His people. As our high High Priest and Lamb of God, He would be wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities.

Jesus resists the impulse, believing in the power of love freely chosen. Jesus conscientiously trained disciples who, after his death, interpreted and put about his teachings. Within a few decades his followers comprised a religion clearly distinct from Judaism.
