Big Names Perform In Guys And Dolls

Several singers have taken advantage of the success of Guys and Dolls and released their own versions of songs from the show. Perry Como and Betty Hutton had a hit with a duet on A Bushel and a Peck in 1950. This was also covered by the Andrews Sisters and by Doris Day. Frank Sinatra also had chart success when he released a single of Luck be a Lady Tonight.

Many actors clamor for a role in the show as Nathan Detroit, who operates an illegal gambling racket, or as Sky Masterson, a high stakes gambler. Detroit is engaged to sultry nightclub singer, Miss Adelaide. Revivals have featured some famous stars including Patrick Swayze and Don Johnson who both performed in London West End productions as Detroit, Swayze in 2006 and Johnson in 2007. Ewan McGregor starred as Sky Masterson. Previously, in 1995, Las Vegas was the stylish setting for a Guys and Dolls production, starring crooner, Jack Jones, Maureen McGovern and Frank Gorshin.
